India is a real Eldorado for hoteliers: the tourism develops itself as strong as in the neighbouring country, China – and the need of new hotels is immense high. The population – about 1,2 billion people – have a growth of about 15 million people per year. Approximately 500 million people belong to the well-off middle class – these people start travelling more frequently. In the coming three years 292 new first class and luxury hotels will open their doors in India. This data has been revealed by TOPHOTELPROJECTS (www.tophotelprojects.com), the worldwide leading provider of global b2b hotel data. Lots more hotel projects are to expect.
Luxury hotels are in a high demand in India. One of the latest top hotels in the sub-continent is the recently opened Kempinski Ambiance Hotel in Delhi. The 480 rooms hotel is split into two towers, which are linked by a glassy bridge. The Dalai Lama joined its opening.
According to a calculation from HVS, in Indian cities nearly 84,000 hotel beds are available. In comparison: Berlin alone offers more than 130,000 hotel beds. In the next five years more than 90,000 hotel beds should arise in India’s metropolis, thereof only 11,000 in Mumbai and 10,000 in the IT and technology location Bangalore.
All large hotel chains bustle in the Indian hotel market. Accor is currently building eight large hotels, Carlson Rezidor is currently developing 30 new properties, Hilton is planning nine new hotels and the InterContinental Hotels Group (HG) is preparing 16 new hotel openings. Also Hyatt is expanding its presence in India strongly: currently they operate 13 hotels – in the next years 15 new hotels should be added.
